Offering therapy services for adolescents and adults in and around Marlow, England

Group therapy can be very powerful because we can learn from each other. Being in a group challenges you in many ways and pushes you to examine your internal family system and beliefs. Who are you in the group, and who do you become?

Group work in therapy can powerfully help people recognise they are not alone in their experiences. Unlike individual therapy, the group itself becomes part of the therapeutic process.

In a safe, confidential, and well-facilitated space, members can explore emotions, relationships, and patterns of behaviour while learning from one another. Group work can encourage connection, belonging, self-awareness, empathy and interpersonal growth.

Some of the therapeutic benefits include:

  • Universality – discovering that others experience similar struggles.
  • Belonging – feeling accepted and connected rather than isolated.
  • Self-awareness – noticing how we relate, communicate and respond to others.
  • Learning through others – gaining different perspectives and coping strategies.
  • Giving and receiving support – experiencing the value of mutual encouragement.
  • Practising boundaries – learning to say no, express needs and respect differences.
  • Working with relationships in the present moment – patterns such as withdrawing, people-pleasing, rescuing or fearing rejection may naturally emerge within the group.
  • Building confidence – gradually finding your voice and allowing yourself to be seen and heard.

A well-facilitated therapy group is more than several people talking about their difficulties. It can become a therapeutic microcosm of everyday relationships, providing opportunities to explore old relational patterns and experiment with healthier ways of connecting.

The aim is not for everyone to think or feel the same. It is to create enough psychological safety for people to be authentic, curious and respectful of difference.

Sometimes healing happens when a therapist hears you. In group work, healing can also happen by discovering that others can see, hear, and accept you.

Group work can accelerate healing as your various subpersonalities are activated and become visible in the group dynamic. Meeting people with shared experiences can be invaluable for relationship-building, confidence, and self-esteem, which can improve mental health and wellness.

Working experientially in groups offers a supportive, nurturing and therapeutic environment for you to express your truth, empathetically and assertively.

Group work in various forms helps address a wide range of needs, from providing information about yourself and how you are perceived in the group to improving social and interpersonal skills and offering coping strategies.

You will learn more about yourself, your identities, roles and inferences in groups because you will be mirrored, validated and reassured. You will be seen, heard, and valued as like-minded people come together as one.

Your needs can be met when you belong, are held, and are valued as a participating member in a group relationship.
